I encourage you to attend the MBA’s Twelfth Annual In-House Counsel Conference on Friday, December 5, 2014.  The conference theme is “Compliance and Risk Management”- critical challenges for in-house counsel. This popular program will present in-house counsel with information and insight from in-house practitioners, outside counsel, and experts in selected areas. Conference panels will focus on the challenges of avoiding serious consequences by sustaining a corporate-wide culture of compliance in the face of changing regulatory landscapes, mobile workforces, and the risk environment.

Attendees at this year’s conference will hear:

  • Opening remarks by F. Beirne Lovely, Jr., General Counsel, Archdiocese of Boston regarding compliance challenges in the current legal environment
  • A discussion and practice tips regarding managing a culture of compliance
  • Observations from the Bench by Hon. Mary Thomas Sullivan, Associate Justice, Massachusetts Appeals Court
  • A presentation regarding a recent Massachusetts Appeals Court decision recognizing the right to include in-house counsel work in a MGL Ch. 93A fee award
  • Tips regarding management of immigration law risks
  • A presentation regarding wage and hour risks with today’s mobile workforce and the new and alternative working arrangements for employees and other personnel, including risks associated with non-compliance with laws regulating employees’ rights
  • A discussion regarding individual liability by company officers for compliance issues

Please plan to attend. Save the date on your calendars. The conference will be held Friday, December 5, 2014, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the MBA Headquarters, 20 West Street, Boston.
