Intellectual Property

At the third program of the Lifecycle series, there will be a full-spectrum overview of the opportunities in, and vulnerabilities of, the information assets of all enterprises, which shape their founding, growth, maintenance and wrap up. Intellectual property (IP) topics will include:

  • The traditional basic IP: patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets
  • Mechanisms (costs) of perfecting and enforcing IP interests
  • Transfer, allocation and leveraging (licensing) of IP rights
  • Common (sometimes devastating) misunderstandings
  • Current trends, including data ownership in “the cloud”

Data Security and Privacy

The panel will review key data security and privacy developments, both in the commonwealth and nationally. Topics will include the Massachusetts data security law and regulations, information security in health care, and the increasing popularity of cyber risk insurance. The panel will also discuss data protection and security in the context of cloud computing and data storage.
