Drug Courts: Where Justice and Treatment Meet

The New England Association of Drug Court Professionals (NEADCP) annual training conference, November 29-30, in Marlborough, is a comprehensive training for all specialty court personnel including several workshops for non-specialty court personnel. The following “tracks” are included: 1) Adult drug courts, 2) Veterans courts, 3) Family drug courts, 4) DWI/OUI/ courts and “drugged driving” issues.  In addition to sessions addressing addiction and recovery, there are sessions on community partnerships, promising programs and evidence based practices involving reentry and medication assisted treatment.

Conference Goal:

To strengthen community connections as a response to the opioid crisis and the furtherance of evidence based practices in the development and expansion of specialty courts

Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

• Discuss what is different about this crisis from the ongoing heroin epidemic New England has experienced such as prescription drugs, fentanyl ...
• Discuss strategies and programs from each state and regionally that are working to address different aspects of this crisis
• Engage with the medical community
• Engage with other disciplines - law enforcement and community groups
• Discuss, understand and apply Evidence-Based Practice and tools for introductory and advanced drug court operations in order to have improved outcomes for success (reduction in substance abuse, less recidivism, more graduations, jobs...)
• Increase networking opportunities
• Promote peer and expert exchange and support new and existing drug courts
