Health Care Disputes and ADR

Join the Health Law Section for a discussion with attorney Jim Purcell on the importance of understanding and applying Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) concepts in the health care arena. Purcell provides unique insight, beyond contractual matters, from his experiences as a former health care attorney and as COO and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island until his retirement in 2011.

The discussion will include:

• The pitfalls of failing to consider ADR as a means to resolve health care disputes
• The nuances of mediation versus arbitration
• Process in which attorneys should prepare themselves and their clients using mediation or arbitration
• The general health care market given the impact of the Affordable Care Act
