March Mindfulness Part 3: Compassion

When:  Mar 17, 2025 from 01:00 PM to 01:30 PM (ET)

Are you mindful or is your mind full? How do you tell the difference?

Practicing mindfulness can offer a myriad of benefits for your personal well-being as well as your professional performance, from managing stress and anxiety, and increasing concentration and self-compassion, to improving your overall health and well-being.

Interested in learning more about mindfulness? Then join us for March Mindfulness, a month-long series of virtual programs presented by the Massachusetts Bar Association Lawyer Well-Being Committee, in conjunction with Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers (LCL), that will look at a variety of mindful practices and different opportunities to practice mindfulness in our lives.

Filippa Marullo Anzalone, professor and associate dean for library and technology at Boston College Law School, presents Part 3 of our ongoing March Mindfulness series.

Mindfulness practices bolster cognitive and emotional intelligence and well-being, including increased capacities of focus, resilience and compassion. Meditation and other contemplative practices, such as loving-kindness meditation, help to calm the nervous system and foster self-compassion. Sharon Salzberg defines compassion as “the movement of the heart in recognizing our own or someone else’s vulnerability.” Self-compassion, which is treating yourself as you would treat a good friend, increases self-acceptance, encourages a growth mindset, and reduces self-criticism. Developing self-compassion helps us to connect to our feelings and needs with curiosity instead of reflexive judgment. This insight encourages a sense of connection instead of isolation and leads to kinder and more compassionate relationships with others.

This program is free for all members of the legal community.

As a bonus, March Mindfulness participants who register and attend every Monday and Thursday session prior to the closing session will be included in a raffle where five winners will receive a gift card!

This webinar will be hosted using Zoom, please select 'Watch Livestream' to register. Registration is required by 9 a.m. on Monday, March 17, to participate in this program. An email from MassBar Education will be sent before the program.
