Communication, Apology and Resolution (CARe)

This program will cover the basic elements of the Communication, Apology and Resolution (CARe) programs in use in many health care facilities in Massachusetts following medical errors or adverse events that result in patient harm. While legislation to enable these programs was passed in 2012, there has been much progress in the rigor and frequency with which these programs are used, and we will discuss recent developments as well as:

• Important opportunities and best practices for attorneys representing patients in these scenarios
• The work of the Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety, a state agency charged with implementing these programs and assisting the public in understanding how they work
