The Massachusetts Bar Association's Family Law Section continues its multi-part series on financial issues in family law. We will start with basic topics and principles, which are meant for less experienced practitioners. We will gradually work up to more complicated topics and how to incorporate these principles into litigating a case all the way through trial.
Join us in person at the Massachusetts Bar Association for Understanding Business Financial Records. This session will teach practitioners how to read and understand important business financial records, such as profit and loss statements, balance sheets and general ledgers.
These types of documents are often the foundation of any business tax return and/or business appraisal. Practitioners need to have a working knowledge of these business financial records when litigating a business owner spouse or parent’s income and/or appraising a business interest in a divorce. Understanding these types of records can be crucial to assisting a financial expert through the litigation process for support and valuation purposes and advancing your client’s case when you represent the business owner.
This program will be held in person at the MBA, 20 West St., Boston. It will also be livestreamed. Registration is required by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, in order to participate in this program. An email from MassBar Education will be sent before the program.
