Celebrating Black Excellence: Roots, Rights,
& Revolution
Join the Massachusetts Bar Association and its Diversity, Equity and
Inclusion Committee for a special celebration on Tuesday, June 17,
commemorating the effective end of slavery in the United States: Juneteenth,
short for June 19, marks the day federal troops informed enslaved people in
Galveston, Texas, that they were free.
This reception will feature welcome and opening remarks by Taneekah A.
Freeman, co-chair of the MBA’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee,
followed by a presentation by Dr. Deborah A. Jackson from the Center for Law,
Equity & Race at Northeastern University School of Law with musical
entertainment by students from the Rose Conservatory.
MBA President Victoria M. Santoro and Hon. Asha
Z. White, Associate Justice, Massachusetts Superior Court, will close the event and the
group will walk to the Embrace Statue in the Boston Common.
This event is co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association and
the Massachusetts Black Women Attorneys.
