Please join the Massachusetts Bar Association’s
Workers' Compensation Section for a hybrid program discussing the history of
workers’ compensation.
Workers' compensation is the first modern example
of social insurance. It began in the United States at the beginning of the 20th
century, but its roots extend back to the beginning of recorded time. From
references in ancient texts — including the Bible — to its surprising role in
pirate culture and beyond, the concept of compensating injured workers has long
been a part of society.
Today's policymakers, regulators, administrators
and attorneys should be aware of the historical underpinnings of this most
unique area of law. Join us for this engaging program as we delve into the rich
and often unexpected historical roots of workers' compensation.
This
program will be held live at the Massachusetts Bar Association, 20 West St.,
Boston. It will also be livestreamed and available to watch via Zoom.
Registration for this program is required by 11 am on Tuesday, May
20. An email from MassBar Education will be sent
before the program.
