It was been one year since the Supreme Court of the United States determined that a mandatory sentence of life without parole for offenders convicted of murder for offenses committed when under age 18 is cruel and unusual punishment. We will discuss the implications of the Supreme Court decision for juveniles in Massachusetts, the status of pending litigation and legislation, as well as the national response to the decision to date.
