Kip Cawley, a member of Foley Hoag's Taxation Group, focuses his practice on a variety of domestic and international business tax planning matters. He has experience helping clients organize new business structures; plan and complete mergers, acquisitions and restructurings; and navigate complex compliance regimes, such as FATCA.
Kip represents taxpayers in audits and appeals before the IRS and state and local tax authorities, and he has tried cases before the United States Tax Court. His tax controversy experience includes corporate tax shelter cases, worker classification determinations, payroll tax disputes and transferee liability claims. He also assists taxpayers with various voluntary disclosure and other tax amnesty programs.
In addition, Kip has experience requesting rulings from taxing authorities, including the IRS, and he advises clients on information reporting obligations, including foreign bank account reports (FBAR).
